Hats off to The Rev. Jim Caime at Loyola University New Orleans – may this be the first step in a long series of successful retention efforts. Success needs to start at the top!
Starting this month, Father Caime will play a large role in ensuring that more of them do. He has just begun a new job as Loyola’s first retention coordinator.
At the university, 73 percent of students who start as freshmen make it to their sophomore year. That’s in line with the average, 72.9 percent, for four-year private nonprofit institutions in 2008, according to the ACT’s college retention and graduation rates. But Loyola’s leaders aren’t content with that.
With undergraduate tuition, fees, room and board ranging between $29,000 to $39,000 you can see the near-term financial impact. Then add in the power of a more positive experience and graduation means stronger word-of-mouth that will impact recruitment and referrals.
