Well, it’s List Time – that wonderful time of the year where everyone is writing about what they learned over the course of the current year, and what they hope to see in the upcoming year. Since I am feeling a little ‘spunky’ this morning, here’s my tongue-in-cheek list of what I hope to see in 2010.
Feel free to submit your own…the more the merrier.
- There will be no more marketing articles written about Don Draper. (I don’t care what he would do – he is a fictional character in a fictional world.)
- There will be no more blog posts entitled ‘How to improve your blog’ that includes ‘offer a unique perspective’, ‘offer unique value to the reader’ and ‘be different’ as ‘helpful hints’. (It’s not that I don’t see value in stating the obvious – it’s that there are too many posts written about ‘improving your blog’ and they all include it so the end result is too much noise, no value, no differentiation…boring!)
- There will be no more articles citing the number of followers as proof that social media is working for someone or a business. (They are becoming less and less common but they still pop up and as soon as I hit that statement, I stop reading. Tell me how many of those followers are new buyers that were converted because of that Facebook/Twitter/YouTube presence, then I get a little more interested.)
- There will be no more ‘Director of Social Media’ positions created in 2010 – and that those that currently exist will slowly begin to disappear. (I agree with Paul Dunay on this.)
- There will be no video content produced simply for the sake of having video content. (I am glad Santa got you a new Flip – but keep your audience in mind when making that decision to present your content either in writing or on video. )
What would you add to the list? Feel free to be a little less tongue in cheek with your suggestions – laughter is important so let’s keep it real.
