Howard Mann’s contribution to Seth Godin’s latest eBook, What Matters Now is entitled “Connected” and it starts off with a very important fact…
There are tens of thousands of businesses making many milllions a year in profits that still haven’t ever hear of twitter, blogs or facebook.
Over the past few weeks, there have been several research reports that are telling us that social media will be receiving more money in 2010 budgets. Do you have a plan or is the money a placeholder to ‘test’ and ‘get our feet wet’?
Do you really need to create a new way to spend your limited financial and human resources? Do you have the time to create relevant content every day and stay up-to-date on the ever-changing technology so you can stay ahead of the pack? Or would you see greater results by focusing on your customer and making certain that you consistently exceed their expectations?
Before you go chasing after blogs, micro-blogs, social networking, social bookmarking…consider the following:
Focus on your customer’s experience – make sure you are consistently delivering a unique, valuable customer experience that leaves your current customers amazed. They will tell others, and you will see your business grow.
Keep talking with your customers – make sure you are on top of the ever changing needs and expectations of the customer. Watch for developing trends that will help you create and offer new solutions because this will help you grow your business.
Play to your strengths, use your resources wisely. Avoid shiny objects that take you away from your strengths and closer to your weaknesses.
Do you talk with your customers on a regular basis? What are your strengths? Weaknesses? Now tell me how you should invest your limited resources for the greatest BANG!
